The build up to the US launch of The Bolter (Knopf, June 2009) has started amazingly with Vogue running a two double-page excerpt and splashing on the cover “SEX AND THE MUCH-MARRIED WOMAN A Sneak Peek at Britain’s Sensational Best Seller.” The Bolter is on sale in the US from June 2nd and I will be doing a tour during the first two weeks of June – watch the column on the right for details.
Meanwhile, my first book, Lilla’s Feast, is now being taught at master’s level in the United States. It has also been translated into Japanese - its sixth language. As it is about a woman (another great-grandmother, but one with a passion for food rather than sex) who was interned by the Japanese in China during the Second World War it will be interesting to see how it is received in Japan.
And now, on with the first of two historical novels for my new British publishers, Virago. Inspired by the historical research of my two biographies they will chart the rise and fall of an industrial family dynasty through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in Britain and America.
Thank you for visiting and please come back again to see what’s new,
Frances
